As the number of cases diagnosed in the UK continues to grow dramatically, health officials have indicated that more than half of those infected with the Omicron coronavirus type in England were twice jabbed.
On Friday night, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) announced that 75 further cases of the Covid-19 Omicron type had been found in England. This takes the overall number of confirmed cases in England to 104, with a total of 134 across the United Kingdom. Although not all of the new cases were linked to travel, the report warned of a “limited level” of community transmission.
The East Midlands, East of England, London, north-east, north-west, south-east, south-west, and West Midlands have all reported cases. On Friday, 16 cases were discovered in Scotland in the previous 24 hours, five times the number the day before.
The dramatic increase in cases coincided with the UKHSA’s last risk assessment, which stated that the new variation is “transmitting rapidly and successfully.” According to the paper, a secondary analysis of the first 22 Omicron cases in England indicated that more than half of individuals infected had been doubly jabbed. Twelve of the 22 occurrences occurred after the individual had received at least two doses of vaccination, which was more than 14 days.
