Mother And Newborn Twin Babies Die In Karnataka After Hospital Refuses To Admit

A 30-year-old mother and her newborn twins died on Thursday during delivery in Karnataka's Tumakuru district, which is close to the state capital of Bengaluru, in what has been dubbed as a massive case of irresponsibility. It has been claimed that they were denied entrance to the district hospital.

Kasturi, the mother, experienced labour pains the previous evening and was rushed to the hospital, according to neighbours who spoke to news agency PTI. She shared a home in Bharathi Nagar with another girl. She belonged to the economically underprivileged sector and had asked several neighbours for assistance in raising money for the delivery. At the time, Kasturi's husband wasn't there. According to accounts quoting neighbours, she also had a six-year-old child.

They took Kasturi to the Tumakuru district hospital in an autorickshaw on Wednesday after she started experiencing labour pains. According to reports, the hospital staff and physicians refused to let her stay since she didn't have a "Maternity Card" or an Aadhaar card. She was sent home by the hospital while in great pain.

The doctor informed Kasturi that she would write a note referring her to the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, they added, according to PTI. But the discomfort grew worse the following morning, and she gave birth to one kid at home. She died after experiencing severe haemorrhage after the delivery of a second child.

District health officer (DHO) Dr. Manjunatha DN took note of the occurrence and recommended the duty doctor be suspended for causing the delay that resulted in the mother and her newborns' deaths. "This is a breach of responsibility. I recommended the duty doctor's suspension to the Tumakuru district deputy commissioner because I cannot order it," he told PTI, adding that a thorough investigation would also be conducted.
