Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led central government on August 21 over the issue of the implementation and legal guarantee of a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers’ produce, claiming that Gautam Adani, a business tycoon, is to blame for the schemes for farmers not being implemented.
Because the Prime Minister has a friend named Adani, who has recently named as Asia’s richest person in the past five years, the MSP is not being enforced, he claimed.
The governor reportedly said, “If MSP isn’t implemented…legal assurance on MSP isn’t given, there will be another fight…this time there would be a furious fight,” according to reports by Indian Express. He was speaking at a programme at a cow refuge in Kira village, Haryana’s Nuh.
The farmers are impossible to defeat.
He said, “You can’t scare him; how will you scare the farmer when you can’t deploy ED or Income-Tax officers?”
Notably, he also pledged to “fully participate” in the fight for farmer’s rights after his tenure is over.
“I came into a woman at the Guwahati airport holding a bouquet. We have come on behalf of Adani, she said when I inquired where she was from. What does that mean, I questioned. She claimed that Adani had been given control of this airport. Adani has received airports, ports, and significant projects… We won’t allow that to happen, but aur ek tarah se desh ko bechne ki taiyari hai (and in a way, the preparation is to sell the country) he added.
He claimed that Adani established a sizable warehouse in Panipat and filled it with wheat purchased at a lower price. “He’ll sell that wheat when the price of wheat goes up… As a result, farmers will suffer while these PM’s friends prosper. There will be a fight against this, and this will not be permitted, the Meghalaya Governor stated.
Malik has previously criticised the government for handling farmer protests. On January 3 of this year, he claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was arrogant when he met with farmers to discuss their protest.
