Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project chief Satish Agnihotri fired over corruption allegations

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited’s (NHSRCL) managing director and the person in charge of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, Satish Agnihotri, has been fired by the Railways.

According to the officials, Rajendra Prasad, Director, Projects, National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), has been given responsibility for the next three months.

Senior railroad authorities claimed Mr. Agnihotri was accused of various things, including misusing his position and illegally channelling funds to a private company. The move by Railways followed a June judgement from the Lokpal court requesting the CBI to look into allegations of a “quid pro quo” arrangement allegedly made by the former NHSRCL MD with a private company during his nine years as the CMD of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).

The CBI must “determine whether any offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, is made out” against Mr. Agnihotri, according to a directive from the Lokpal court, and must submit the investigation’s findings to the Lokpal office within six months or before December 12, 2022.

The Government of India and the participating states have formed NHSRCL as a joint venture to carry out high-speed rail projects.
