Ukraine has stated that an immediate ceasefire is their goal for the negotiations, while Russia’s Vladimir Putin has placed the country’s nuclear deterrent forces in a “special combat duty regime.” Germany, the United States, Australia, and Canada are among the countries that have chosen to deploy military aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, at a UN Human Rights Council meeting on Monday, India again abstained from voting.
Shell, a British oil and gas firm, has announced its withdrawal from Russia, citing President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as a reason for the loss of international investment and expertise in the country’s vital energy sector.
Shell said it would withdraw its joint ventures with Gazprom and affiliated organisations, including its 27.5 percent investment in the Sakhalin-II liquefied natural gas project, 50 percent stake in Salym Petroleum Development, and the Gydan energy venture. Shell also plans to withdraw from the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project.
