New study finds that variants of Covid-19 are still transmissible between species

According to a study based on computer simulations, the SARS-CoV-2 virus is still quite contagious among mammals. The coronaviruses that infect cells use their spike proteins to adhere to the host cells in both bats and people, according to research from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the US.
The research, which was published in the journal Royal Society Open Science, demonstrates how the ACE2 host cell receptors on humans and several Rhinolophus bat species interact with the viral spike proteins in numerous SARS-CoV-2 variants.
According to RIT Associate Professor Gregory Babbitt, "We were hoping to see very fascinating adaptive evolution happening as the virus got more accustomed to humans and less accustomed to bats, but we really discovered that there wasn't a whole lot of change."
Babbit stated in a statement, "There's really not much stopping it from passing from humans to bats since this binding site has not evolved that much.
In December 2019, according to scientists, bats likely transmitted SARS-CoV-2 to people for the first time. Since then, the virus has developed into various varieties, including Delta and Omicron.
According to the study, cross-species infectivity would be rather common, and there is a ton of evidence for that in the literature. Proteins were placed in a solvated simulation by the researchers, who then observed how they moved using a computer simulation technique called molecular dynamics.
The method shows what each atom performs over time using high performance computing on graphics computers.
