The union minister added that tapped water connections have been set up over 2.6 lakh households in Meghalaya. I have a firm belief that Meghalaya will be able to provide tap water connections to the remaining households, he said.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a minister for the union's jal shakti movement, has voiced optimism that contemporary science and technology will help India's northeastern area deal with its flood crisis.

The union minister made this comment on Thursday while taking part in a conversation at the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) in Umiam, Meghalaya, close to Shillong, on the topic of using space applications to manage flooding in the region. He declared: "The centre wants to make the most of contemporary research and technology to find a practical solution to the long-standing issue of flooding in the Northeast."

The union minister declared that "massive measures are being initiated to provide relief to the Northeast states from the ravages of floods."
