According to a survey of hospital data conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research, a significantly younger population was more infected during the Omicron-driven third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in India. According to Dr Balram Bhargava, director general of the ICMR, the data was gathered from 37 hospitals across the country.
Dr. Bhargava described the clinical characteristics of patients hospitalized in India during the third wave as “quite young” but with “surprisingly significant co-morbidities.” “Having said that, the prevalence of co-morbidities in this younger sample was quite significant. About 46% of the individuals who were younger had co-morbidities but nearly half of them had at least one co-morbidity “Dr. Bhargava explained.
During the third wave, the average age of hospitalization was roughly 44, compared to 55 in the previous wave. The hospitalization data from December 16, 2021, to January 17, 2022, as compared to November 15 and December 15 of the same year.
