The partition is the darkest tragedy in Indian history. Millions of families were displaced and faced untold horrors. And to remember the pain and sorrow of those families and pay tribute to them. This special day is observed as national memorial day in India on 14 August commemorating the victims and sufferings of people during the Partition of India. Several families were displaced and many lost their lives in the partition.
A day ahead, India to celebrate its 75th anniversary of Independence Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday remembered the horrors of partition on Twitter to pay homage to those who lost their lives during the bloody incidents of 1947. Sunday, August 14, marks the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, which the Prime Minister announced last year.
“I pay homage to all those who lost their lives during Partition, and applaud the resilience as well as grit of all those who suffered during that tragic period of our history,” he wrote.
“May the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment,” his statement made last year.
