In various regions of Assam, constant rain and landslides have put life out of whack in recent days. The situation in four districts – Nagaon, Hojai, Cachar, and Darrang – remains critical, according to the most recent developments. According to Assam State Disaster Management, the death toll from floods and landslides has risen to 14, with approximately 7.12 lakh people affected across 29 districts of the state, according to news agency ANI.
In Bihar, 33 people were killed by lightning and thunderstorms, and the state’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, has promised compensation to the victims’ families. Meanwhile, torrential rains in Karnataka also caused flooding in certain areas and killed two individuals.
“Thunderstorms and lightning killed 33 individuals in 16 districts across the state.” On Friday night, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Twitter, “Instructions have been given to offer an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to families of those who have perished,” as he urged people to be cautious. “Be home and stay safe,” he added, asking the state to follow the emergency management authority’s instructions.
According to the state disaster management body in Assam, the Nagaon district has been hit the most, with around 3.36 lakh people, followed by 1.66 lakh in Cachar, 1.11 lakh in Hojai, and 52,709 in Darrang.
Four people, including two children, drowned in flooding in Cachar, Lakhimpur, and Nagaon districts on Friday, according to news agency ANI.
Chinook heavy-lift helicopters were dispatched on Friday to assist National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) troops in the flood-affected areas of Haflong, assisting in the evacuation of persons stranded in the area owing to floods and landslides.
