Pakistani playback singer Nayyara Noor passed away at the age of 71 after a brief illness, the singer has been adored by millions from both sides of the border for her soulful melodies, her family said on Sunday, bringing the curtains down on the life of one of the last musical icons to represent the shared culture of India and Pakistan.
Noor was born on November 3, 1950, in Assam’s Guwahati, she liked Begum Akhtar Ghazals, thumris and Kanan Devi Bhajans since childhood. She was seven years old when her family migrated to Pakistan.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expresses the loss of the singer, “Be it a ghazal or a song, whatever Nayyara Noor sang, she sang it with perfection. The void created by Nayyara Noor’s death will never be filled,” posted on Twitter while praying for her place in heaven.
According to media news led by the family, the funeral prayers offered were at 4 p.m. (4:30 p.m IST)on Sunday at Masjid/Imambargah Yasrab is located in DHA and she was laid to rest at a DHA Phase 8 cemetery.
