The presidential election results will be announced today at 11 a.m., and India will elect its 15th president as a result. The contest is between Droupadi Murmu, a candidate for the BJP-led NDA, and Yashwant Sinha, a candidate for the unified opposition. However, the odds-on favorite to be promoted to the nation’s highest constitutional office is anticipated to be in favor of the BJP’s nominee Murmu.
If elected, Droupadi Murmu, a former governor of Jharkhand, will become only the second woman and first tribal leader of India.
After the results are declared, the local BJP is preparing victory celebrations for Murmu.
On July 18, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., all elected MLAs and MPs in the country voted for Ram Nath Kovind’s successor at 31 locations, including the Parliament House and 30 centres within state legislative assemblies. The Election Commission authorised 728 of the 736 voters—727 MPs and 9 MLAs—to cast ballots in Parliament House. 98.91 percent of the electorate turned out at Parliament House.
