According to US President Joe Biden, the world is “navigating a dark hour in our shared history” as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to him, the war has evolved into a “global issue,” emphasizing the significance of maintaining international order.
In his first trip to Asia as president, Mr. Biden is meeting with the leaders of Japan, Australia, and India in Tokyo.
The Quad, which consists of four countries, is meeting to address security and economic issues, including China’s growing influence in the region and disagreements over the Russian incursion.
Mr Biden’s remarks come a day after he warned China that it was “flirting with peril” over Taiwan and pledged to defend Taiwan militarily if it was attacked, seemingly contradicting a long-standing position on the matter.
As Russia’s blockade on Ukraine grain exports intensifies a worldwide food crisis, he predicted that the Ukraine war “will affect all corners of the world.”
Fumio Kishida, Japan’s prime minister, repeated his remarks, stating that a comparable invasion in Asia should be avoided.
Mr. Biden stated that the US will lead the global response with allies, reiterating their commitment to preserve international order and sovereignty “regardless of where they were infringed throughout the world” and being a “strong and enduring partner” in the Indo-Pacific area.
