Following the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department, all government offices in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpettu would be closed, with only necessary services allowed (IMD).
Rains in Chennai and the surrounding areas have reportedly stopped in recent hours, according to sources. Cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal is still forecast to provide moderate rains. On Thursday, heavy to extremely heavy rains pummelling Chennai and its suburbs, inundating roadways and subways and killing three people in rain-related events.
MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, spoke out about the state’s recent heavy rains, saying that the administration will ask the federal government to review the forecasting methods and gadgets used to anticipate rain. Every year, a number of areas in Chennai, including T Nagar, are flooded. He further stated that the problem would be resolved before the next monsoon. Stalin also requested the local government to clear flooded roadways by dusk.
Following severe rain in Chennai, three subways and 14 roadways have been detected as being flooded. Officials from the city corporation are utilizing motorized pumps to guarantee that the water recedes. In the city, the rain has stopped.
The electricity has been turned off in the residential areas of T Nagar and West Mambalam in Chennai due to heavy rain and flooding. Several areas of Chennai continue to be without power.
