The Role Of Education In Preventing Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile Delinquency is a serious problem of today’s society. Everyday we read newspaper or watch television and hear news of crimes Committed by Juvenile with of all of the crimes being reported by the media about juveniles. One cannot help but wonder if all our nation’s youth are juvenile delinquents. Instead of seeking help for individual, our justice system places them in adult facilities to “teach them a lesson”.
Delinquency is nothing but the way to delinquent behaviour. Delinquents are those young adolescence who are misbehave, not following the rules of the society. It is called the habitual committing of criminal acts or offences by a young person especially one below the age at which ordinary criminal prosecution is possible. Delinquents are the person who are below 18. Juvenile Delinquency which is basically is the rebellious or unlawful activities by kids in their teens or preteens is caused by four main risk factors namely Personality, Background, state of mind and drugs. The old will be sent to old age homes while those who don’t have parents will be sent to the orphanages and juvenile delinquency to correction facilities. In our country, the percentage of recorded juvenile crimes are about 0.9% to 1% of total percentage. It is stadily rising due to the persistent poverty. In our society we have found four types of Juvenile Delinquents.
Low socio economic status ,vocational dissatisfaction, love of adventure, Attention Deficit hyperactivity Disorder, street life, school dissatisfaction are the main cause of Juvenile Delinquency. For solving various problems done by delinquents, we must take some steps.
Education is powerful instrument to prevent Juvenile Delinquency. Delinquency prevention is actually broad term for all effects aimed at preventing youth from becoming involving criminal or other antisocial activity. Education makes people aware about Delinquency and its prevention services. Through proper guidance and counceling programmes, Education may prevent the problem of Juvenile Delinquency. Education include different activities such as parenting education, family councelling, youth monitoring and education support prevent the juvenile delinquency from the modern society. Proper vocational education, leisure time education, health education, education for mental health are some aspects of education for preventing the juvenile delinquency. In this regard we can mention about sex education. Lastly we can say that education is the most effective technique to promote Economic Growth, Innovation, Moral, Social, Democratic values which are closely related to prevent the problem of Juvenile Delinquency.
