As authorities continue to crackdown on the opposition, Russia placed jailed Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny to a list of “terrorists and extremists” on Tuesday.
Nine more Navalny allies were added to the list on Tuesday, according to Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, which was branded extremist and shut down last year.
The ruling places them on the same level as right-wing nationalists and international terrorist groups like the Taliban and ISIS.
Last January, President Vladimir Putin’s top opponent Navalny was imprisoned and his political organizations were outlawed, marking an unprecedented assault on the opposition in Russia.
Navalny, Putin’s most outspoken domestic opponent, has been imprisoned since his return to Moscow in January 2021 from Germany, where he was recovering from a nerve agent poisoning attack that he blames on the Kremlin.
