The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh seeking a direction to the CBI to cite the preliminary inquiry documents and the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate allegations of corruption and money laundering.
However, when Deshmukh’s chartered accountants Vinod Hassani and Vishal Khatwani, as well as Surendra Kumar Jain, Virendra Kumar Jain, and Kishore Dewani, appeared before the court on Wednesday, Special Judge M G Deshpande granted them bail. They were arrested and granted interim bail on a personal bond of Rs. 3 lakh each. The court has scheduled their regular bail hearing for December 1st.
The CBI told the Bombay High Court on Wednesday that the Maharashtra government is attempting “shamelessly” to obstruct an ongoing corruption investigation into former state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and that it does not deserve any respite in the case.
