Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress, pleaded with Speaker Om Birla to strike Smriti Irani’s comments from the record of the House.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, requested on Friday that Speaker Om Birla strike from the record the comments made in the House by Union minister Smriti Irani. Chowdhury claimed that the way the BJP MP used the name of President Droupadi Murmu amounted to a degradation of the office of the president. Irani was “yelling” the name of President Murmu “without prefixing Madame or Smt” during her address in the House, according to ANI.
As Chowdhury said, “I would also mention that Smt. Smriti Irani’s usage of the title “Honorable Madam President” in the House was improper and out of keeping with her position and rank as the Honorable. President. Without adding the words Hon’ble President, Madame, or Smt. before the name of the Hon’ble President, she repeatedly yelled “Droupadi Murmu.”
“This blatantly lowers the dignity of the position of the Hon. President. I, therefore, demand that the manner in which Smt. Smriti Irani addressed the Honorable President be expunged from the House’s proceedings, ” he added.
As Sonia Gandhi had nothing to do with the situation, he also urged Birla to have the entire incident mentioning her name removed from the House proceedings, according to PTI.
As Irani demanded an apology from Chowdhary and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the political uproar over his “rashtrapatni” statement intensified on Thursday. Irani has stated that the Congress should apologize to every Indian citizen in Parliament and on the streets of India.
