Following the coronavirus, the United States is seeing an increase in monkeypox cases, and it is now at the top of the list of countries most affected by the current outbreak. Within the United States, the majority of cases are focused in New York, which has declared a “State Disaster Emergency” to combat the disease’s spread.
New York governor Katchy Hochul made the statement in a Twitter thread, emphasising the gravity of the issue. “More than one-fourth of all monkeypox cases in this country are in New York, where the disease is currently having a disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups,” she said.
“We are working around the clock to get more vaccines, increase testing capacity, and educate New Yorkers on how to keep safe,” she continued. “I am announcing a State of Emergency in order to bolster our ongoing efforts to combat the monkeypox outbreak.”
This Executive Order empowers us to respond more quickly, and it authorises health care professionals to take additional actions to assist more New Yorkers get vaccinated.”
San Francisco declared a “Local Public Health Emergency” on Friday to combat the disease’s spread. “The virus impacts everyone, and the LGBTQ community is seeing a lot of instances,” Mayor London Breed said.
