Suspended DIG of Assam Arrested; More than ₹100 crores worth Property
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell detained Assam Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rounak Ali Hazarika in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
DIG Raunak Ali Hazarika has been suspended a month ago for traveling overseas without permission from the Home Department on many occasions.
A team from the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell raided the DIG’s home in Guwahati, according to officials.
Ali was suspended in July after taking many foreign excursions without the permission of the relevant authority. Ali was apprehended in Guwahati by a team of CM vigilance officers. In 1992, Hazarika joined the Assam Police Service (APS).
According to a statement issued by the Home and Political Affairs Department, top IPS officer Rounak Ali Hazarika has repeatedly disobeyed official directives. “In execution of the powers provided by the provisions of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, the Governor of Assam thus suspends Hazarika with immediate effect.”
After an examination, it was discovered that Saibur Rahman, an Assam Civil Service officer, had 89 landed properties registered in his name or the names of his two wives. The market worth of the properties in Assam was estimated to be over ₹100 crores.
