Sonia Gandhi, the head of the Congress, was served with a new summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in the case involving the National Herald. On July 21, the agency requested that the leader of the Congress appear.
The federal agency had previously granted Gandhi’s request to delay the case’s interrogation, and it had invited the Congress president to record her statement with the agency during the final week of July.
Gandhi was initially given notice to appear on June 8; however, after a Covid-19 test revealed her positive, a new notice to appear on June 23 was given.
Rahul Gandhi, former president of the Congress, and her son had both spent several days testifying before ED investigators. A significant number of Congress leaders had protested in the streets during this period over the alleged abuse of central agencies against members of the opposition.
