According to reports, the MHA made its decision after Intelligence and other security agencies assessed Agnihotri’s security danger.
Agnihotri will receive eight CRPF soldiers, including one or two commandos, as well as police personnel, under the ‘Y’ category. The Kashmir Files, directed by Agnihotri, is based on the departure of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir following the advent of militancy in the valley.
People acquainted with the situation stated he will be protected by the CRPF during his stay and transit throughout India.
The Y category cover entails the deployment of four to five armed commandos close to the protectee. According to one of the officials quoted above, the central intelligence agencies conducted a threat assessment and advised that Agnihotri be given VIP security protection.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently praised the film, claiming that such films show the truth and that there has been a “plot” to undermine it.
The film, which has grossed over Rs100 crore at the box office, stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi and has won universal praise.
