Following the annexation of Crimea, Milner said in a tweet that he and his family “left Russia for good” in 2014. When Russia attacked Ukraine earlier this year, DST Global issued a statement denouncing “Russia’s war against Ukraine, its sovereign neighbour,” and his foundation spoke out against “unprovoked and savage assaults against the civilian population.” Milner asserted that he backed up their claims.
As Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine attracted censure and penalties from Western nations, Milner, a famous tech tycoon who was born in Moscow, sought to disassociate his company from Russia. In Silicon Valley, where he has long been a mainstay, Milner’s links to the nation caused considerable concern. Milner’s wealth is estimated to be worth $3.5 billion on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Profitable investments were made in tech behemoths including Facebook, now Meta Platforms Inc., by DST Global.
