For the fifth year in a row, Finland has been named the happiest country in the world.The countries that saw the greatest boost in happiness were Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania. The three largest declines in happiness came in Lebanon, Venezuela, and Afghanistan.
The country at the bottom of the table, Afghanistan, is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis with war-traumatized citizens. When the Taliban came back in power last year the situation deteriorated rapidly. A UN agency (UNICEF) estimates that, if not aided, one million children under five could die of hunger this winter.
The World Happiness Report is a 10-year study on people’s perception of the “happiness” of their lives. It’s created in part with both personal surveys and economic and social data.The AI assigns a happiness score on a scale of 0 to 10, based on an average of data that was taken over the three-year period. Just in this latest edition from before the Russian invasion, it’s important to remember that it was completed before.
The Nordic Europeans have the best rates of satisfaction, with the Danish people coming in second for happiness, followed by Iceland and Switzerland. The Dutch are fourth on the list.
The US rose 3 spots to be ranked 16th, one ahead of Britain; France climbed to 20th–its highest rank ever.
