On Monday, the Trinamool Congress held a protest in front of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in Kolkata, protesting the arrest of West Bengal Trinamool Youth Congress President Saayoni Ghosh and alleged violence against party cadres in Tripura.
A 15-member TMC delegation is protesting outside the MHA, dissatisfied that they were not able to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resolve the problem.
Saayoni Ghosh was detained in Agartala on Sunday under five sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder and incitement to riot, according to police.
“We will continue to agitate until Shah offers us an appointment to meet him,” TMC MP Derek O’Brien stated.
The TMC claims that the dharna is being held to protest police “brutality” in Tripura.
“We want to meet Shah because TMC activists and leaders are being violently attacked and arrested in Tripura on false allegations,” Derek O’Brien stated.
“TMC leaders are being booked on false accusations, which is why we are protesting outside the ministry,” TMC MP Saugata Roy remarked.
Despite Supreme Court orders, TMC officials accused the BJP of continuing to assault party candidates and employees, as well as the Tripura police, of “bias.”
