Two killed, dozens injured after 2 earthquakes rocked Haiti

Two moderate earthquakes struck southwest Haiti on Monday, killing two people, hurting dozens more students, and causing damage to hundreds of homes in a region already reeling from a devastating quake that killed over 2,000 people last summer.

At 8:16 a.m., a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck, followed by a magnitude 5.1 quake nearly an hour later. According to the US Geological Survey, both were focused in Haiti’s southern peninsula, west of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Both occurred around six miles beneath the surface, according to the report.
