This morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level conference on the Ukraine crisis and Indian students stranded in the midst of Russia’s invasion. According to government sources, some Union Ministers may travel to Ukraine’s neighbouring nations to oversee the evacuation of students. Hardeep Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju, and VK Singh are among the ministers expected to fly out for the mission.
Around 16,000 students are believed to be trapped in Ukraine, hunkered down in bunkers, bomb shelters, or the basements of their hostels.
Those who remain in the country have been attempting to reach the border in order to board Air India evacuation flights from Romania, Hungary, the Slovak Republic, and Poland.
Many students have set out on foot in an attempt to cross the border.
Indians who crossed the Romanian and Hungarian frontiers were transported by car to Bucharest and Budapest, with the assistance of government officials, in order to be evacuated on these Air India flights.
Indian officials in Ukraine, on the other hand, have asked citizens not to approach border lines without first consulting with officials. The MEA has published helpline numbers for people stranded in the war-torn country of Ukraine.
Thousands of Indian students and citizens, on the other hand, have been evacuated as part of the ‘operation ganga’ mission.
