UP Professor charged for raping Facebook friend
A professor at a top university has been charged with allegedly rapping a woman in Kanpur with whom he had developed a Facebook acquaintance. He was said to have pledged to marry her.
The court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the accused, who is currently on the run. According to the woman’s complaint, she met the professor on Facebook in November 2019.
As their friendship grew, they began to see each other more frequently. The professor summoned the woman to his flat near Merchant Chamber Crossing and announced his wish to marry her.
She also claimed that he began assaulting her sexually in the meantime and that she fell pregnant as a result. When she asked him to marry her, the accused requested that the pregnancy be terminated. The professor’s marriage had been fixed in Jaunpur, it was later discovered.
At Gwaltoli police station, the victim filed a complaint against the defendant.
“After registering a case, the victim’s statement has been recorded in the court,” Inspector Dhananjay Singh of Gwaltoli stated. Attempts are still being made to apprehend the accused. The court has also issued the police with an NBW.”
