A Western Disturbance in the Western Himalayan is likely to affect weather in the region from Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Overcast weather, lower than normal day temperatures, and widespread rain is expected in northwest India until January 9, according to the IMD.
This week, significant rainfall or snowfall is expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand as a result of the disturbance. There’s also a chance of isolated hailstorms in the area. In Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall is expected. In the region, isolated thunderstorm activity is also predicted.
“Until January 9, we expect widespread showers in northwest India and parts of central India, with the possibility of heavy rain on January 5 and 6 and January 8 and 9.” Day temperatures may be lower than typical due to two powerful Western Disturbances occurring back-to-back, and the sky is expected to be cloudy.
Temperatures are expected to be above normal at night. Rain is expected to fall heavily in Delhi on January 5 and 7. Rainfall and hailstorm are expected across Telangana, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand as a result of the second disturbance, according to RK Jenamani, the senior scientist at IMD.
