Women Have More (…) Partners Than Men in 11 States Including Assam: National Family Health Survey
According to data from the National Family Health Survey, women are not that far behind men in having many sex partners in about 11 states, including Assam and the Union Territories.
According to data by the National Family Health, which was based on a sample size of 1.1 lakh women and 1 lakh men, the average number of sex partners for women was higher than for males in numerous states and Union territories.
Data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) show that 4% of men had sex with someone who was neither their spouse nor someone they shared housing with, which is significantly greater than the 0.54% rate for women.
In 11 states and UTs, women have more sexual partners on average than men, yet the NFHS data shows that men had a higher percentage of extramarital affairs (4%) than women (0.5%) with people who were neither their spouses nor roommates. These are the states and union territories of Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu.
The state of Rajasthan had the highest number of women who had on average 3.1 sexual partners against 1.8 for men. According to the survey, 4 percent of men engaged in sexual relations with someone not their spouse or living partner in the 12 months prior to the survey. Women accounted for 0.5% of the population. In the National Family Health Survey-5 conducted during 2019-21, 707 districts in 28 states and 8 UTs were surveyed.
