In the wake of a disastrous rainstorm that is wreaking havoc over the country’s southern regions. In Andhra Pradesh, floods have claimed the lives of 17 people and swept away more than 100 others. Hundreds of pilgrims are stuck in heavy floods in Tirupati, according to images from the temple town.
On the outskirts of Tirupati, the Swarnamukhi river is flooded, and the reservoirs are overflowing. Many people are said to be stranded in the floods.
Three state buses were stranded, while 12 others were unable to be evacuated.
The Rayalaseema region has been hit the hardest. The districts of Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, and Anantpur in the state have been impacted.
In the Anantpur district, three individuals were killed when a structure fell.
Many highways have been devastated by the floods, and rail, road, and air transportation have all been affected.
On Thursday, Tirumala, Lord Venkateswara’s residence, was slammed by a major flood on a never-before-seen magnitude, stranding hundreds of pilgrims even as a torrential downpour caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal pelted the temple town of Tirupati and several portions of Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district.
Meanwhile, to deal with the situation, national and state disaster relief teams have been dispatched, and rescue operations are in full swing.
