According to reports, a German regional official stated Saturday that health authorities have found the first probable case of the new Covid-19 form in the country, in a person who returned from South Africa.
On Saturday, Kai Klose, the social affairs minister in the western state of Hesse, tweeted that the first suspected case of the novel Omicron strain of COVID-19 had been identified in Germany in a person who had recently returned from South Africa.
“It’s very likely that the Omicron model is already present in Germany,” he stated. “A traveler returning from South Africa was found to have many Omicron-like mutations yesterday night. As a result, there is a lot of distrust, and the person has been isolated. At this time, the whole sequencing is still pending ” he added.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday urged countries in the South-East Asia Region to increase surveillance, boost public health and social measures, and increase vaccination coverage in light of the discovery of a new form of Omicron.
