A ‘moment of emotion’ parliamentarians sing Ukraine’s national anthem in a secret meeting; watch

There was a very touching video on the internet showing about 300 members of the Ukrainian Parliament singing the national anthem together on Thursday while the parliament secretly met amid the ongoing Russian bombardment.

While most MPs stay at unidentified places, a video of the covert meeting as well as the parliamentarians signing their national song together has surfaced on Twitter. Some MPs raised their hands to their chests as they stood to sing the national anthem.

The Ukrainian MP Lesia Vesylenko said that the meeting was “short and tense.” “As we begin our meeting in the most targeted building in all of Ukraine, we sing the national anthem,” she wrote on Twitter.

Another parliamentarian, Kira Rudik, told a local news channel that the parliamentarians’ meeting in the midst of the fighting was dangerous. “We recognised that there were risks, and that the risks were significant, but we also recognised that the parliament is a symbol of our country.” The parliament, on the other hand, must fight and perform its job if the country is to survive. As a result, we huddled in the shadows.

“Our national anthem was then performed. It had a lot of  emotion to it. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt so connected to my colleagues in the legislature. In the Ukrainian Parliament, there was no more dramatic circumstance “Kira completed the sentence.
