In one of the hilarious fraud on the open source platform, a Chinese lady posing as a historian spent years inventing fictitious governments, battles and nobility on the Chinese Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia the essay written by the lady went into great detail about the mine’s construction, the geological makeup of the soil, and even the refining processm, which is? Yeah right, not real. Poor readers!
The swindle was discovered last month by Chinese author Yifan, he found that the lengthy stories and history, the woman has included in her writings are foul because according to her entries on Slavic wars and obviously others, nothing can be found in Medieval Russian historical records. She was very smartly fooling the readers fusing reality and fiction in such a strategy that it went unnoticed for years and also tested the limits of crowdsourced platforms’ ability to weed out dishonest users. She has published almost 206 entries on Wikipedia since 2019 unless Yifan found that the the pages or editions of the book she claimed for, did not even exist. The scam came down from the air apparently after a group of volunteer editors and other Wikipedia writers, including Yip, went through her prior contribution to over 300 articles.
