Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to stop flights from countries affected by the new COVID-19 variation.
“I ask the Prime Minister to suspend flights from the countries affected by the new variation. Our country has recovered from catastrophe with considerable difficulty. We should do everything we can to keep this new variant out of India “In a tweet, Kejriwal stated.
In response to growing concern about a new COVID-19 variant known as ‘Omicron,’ which was first discovered in South Africa, India has added several countries to the list of countries from which visitors will need to take extra precautions arrival in India, including post-arrival infection testing.
Following the finding of the novel COVID-19 variant ‘Omicron’ in South Africa, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare added Hong Kong and Israel to the list of countries from which travelers would need to follow additional precautions upon arrival in India, including post-arrival testing.
On Saturday, Australia became the latest country to impose travel restrictions on nine African nations: South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Seychelles, Malawi, and Mozambique.
For the time being, India has not put any restrictions on flights from the impacted region. The Union’s health ministry, on the other hand, has ordered states to begin thorough screening and testing of all overseas travelers arriving in or transiting via Botswana, South Africa, and Hong Kong, which have so far reported cases of the new type.
