As the Enforcement Directorate (ED) continued its questioning of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a money laundering case for the third day, Congress workers staged protests across the country, including in the northeastern state of Assam.
Workers of the grand old party attempted to march along the main Guwahati-Shillong Road from the state party headquarters Rajiv Bhawan near Bhangagarh region, raising chants against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government. The Guwahati Police had previously deployed a big personnel and constructed barricades in anticipation of the move.
When workers waving party flags attempted to cross the barricades, they were stopped by on-duty cops. Dispur’s Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was also present and suffered injuries to his head, tantalizingly close to his eye.
Assam’s Special Director General of Police, Law & Order, GP Singh, shared photos of the ACP bleeding and said it was just “another day at work” for the state’s cops. “Treatment has been given in a timely manner.
