Assam Govt. to honor the unsung heroes' who fought the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971

In recognition of the unsung heroes who battled with all their hearts and souls in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The government of Assam has decided to honor state soldiers who fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 on April 23, but their efforts have been mostly unknown.

"To honor the supreme sacrifice of warriors who participated in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, an award ceremony will be held on April 23, which would be graced by the presence of Adarniya Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh Ji," said chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet.

"Though numerous defense people from the northeast played a catalyst's role in the Bangladesh Liberation War, little was known about their sacrifice and performance," the chief minister added. Thousands of Mukti Bahini independence fighters were trained and equipped by these officers to battle the Pakistani army."

The battle in the former East Pakistan began on March 25 and ended on December 16. In Dhaka, Pakistan declared defeat and surrendered to Mukti Bahini and the Indian Army and a new nation was established. The battle came to an end on December 16, 1971, when West Pakistani military forces stationed in Bangladesh surrendered in the largest mass surrender of soldiers since World War II.

Every year on this day, India commemorates India's triumph over Pakistan and the birth of Bangladesh with Vijay Diwas. Bangladesh honored 12 Indian armed forces personnel who gave their lives in the 1971 war on Vijay Diwas in Kolkata in 2018.
