Assam: Newly-wed couple dies after being run over by a train near Guwahati
On Friday evening, a newlywed couple was killed after they were struck by a train in the Khetri Uluboma neighbourhood of Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district.
Rajiv Paharia and Chandrama Chetri, a husband and wife from Khetri’s Senabor village who had just been married for three months, were run over by the Kolong-Kopili Express on its way to Nagaon.
As soon as the Khetri police and officers of the Government Railway Police (GRP) were alerted by the neighbourhood locals, they reached the scene and immediately began their enquiry. However, it was unclear whether the death was an accident or a suicide. Later on, the bodies were sent for post-mortem by the police.
When we learned about the accident, we rushed to the scene with GRP employees and discovered the victims lying on the railway lines, according to the investigating officer from the Khetri police station. Not yet known are the exact circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths. We won’t know if it was a suicide or an accident until we have completed our enquiry, he stated
