‘Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ravana": Mallikarjun Kharge sparks political controversy

A few days before the Gujarat elections in 2022, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said something divisive about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, likening him to the villain of the Hindu epic Ramayana. This statement sparked a significant political controversy.

At a campaign event in Gujarat, Kharge compared Prime Minister Modi to the rakshasa king and questioned whether he had 100 heads like Ravan. The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), in response to the Congress leader's remark, labeled it "derogatory."

Sambit Patra, a spokesman for the BJP, attacked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his disparaging remark about Prime Minister Modi, claiming that the Congress party has humiliated not just the son of Gujarat but also every Gujarati with this slur.

Patra stated, "Sonia Gandhi, who was the chief of the Congress, had called PM Modi as a trader of death (maut ka saudagar)," in a reference to the numerous insults directed at PM Modi by Congress leaders . PM Modi was told to die Hitler's death by Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay.
"It is a plea to the entire Gujarati population that the party whose leader insulted Modi be made to learn a lesson. Gujaratis had to democratically leave their houses and vote against Congress as payback "he stated.

The BJP spokesman continued, "For the past eight years, PM Modi has continuously worked for the development of the oppressed and backward part of the society."
