Cold to severe cold wave conditions is expected to persist in portions of northern India until Wednesday, while two western disturbances are expected to reach the western Himalayan region during the following three days, bringing scattered and light rain.
The rain will assist to alleviate the effects of the cold wave, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Over the next two days, minimum temperatures in most portions of northwest, central, and east India are unlikely to shift significantly. Following that, minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius in northwest India and by 2-4 degrees Celsius in central and eastern India.
“The second western disturbance is still going strong. It’s possible that scattered light rain will fall throughout the plains. From December 22 to 27, there is expected to be a break in the existing cold wave due to incoming western disturbances. However, due to the cloudiness, daytime temperatures are expected to be below normal. As a result, it’s too early to determine how long the cold wave will last,” said R K Jenamani, senior scientist at the National Weather Forecasting Centre.
From Tuesday to Friday, light to moderate isolated and scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in the north-eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, according to the IMD.
