Governor Satya Pal Malik endorsed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government when he said corruption was relatively low in the state. Despite the allegations of corruption and poor governance, the government continues to face allegations.
His response was to reporters’ questions about whether he will address corruption and scams in the state, which are frequently reported.
“I was put here after I raised the corruption issue in four states. Where will I end up next? I’m getting close to retiring. I won’t get into any altercations, the governor told reporters on Tuesday.
Several departments within the state government have been accused of irregularities in recent years. Several allegations of irregularities were made regarding the Saubhagya scheme, including a rice scam. Furthermore, there were allegations of misappropriation of funds in district councils.
Malik referred to the Agnipath initiative, which had led to several protests, as a “fraud on youth” and requested that it be discontinued. He insisted on keeping the previous recruitment system in place.
He claimed that despite sharing his worries with the Center on a number of occasions in the past, no resolution was found. He claimed he is unaware of the source of concepts like Agnipath that are provided to the government.
When asked about his opinion of corruption in Meghalaya earlier this year, the governor was generous, despite the state’s frequent accusations of illegal coal mining and transportation being an eyesore. The fact that “nobody has come to complain and everything I could see I am satisfied,” he claimed, demonstrated that things are better in Meghalaya. The money doesn’t entirely go to the people in the northern states, though.
