On Saturday afternoon, an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck Guwahati, Assam. The quake struck at 1.12 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the National Center for Seismology. The earthquake’s epicenter was 38 kilometres west-southwest of Guwahati.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, according to preliminary data. Because shallow earthquakes are closer to the surface, they are felt more powerfully than deeper ones.
