Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Dr. Tamilisai Sounderarajan on Thursday said that the Education department of the union territory would formulate a uniform dress code for students.
The Governor of UT Puducherry announced that the state’s students will be subjected to a uniform code following a Muslim student in class IX was instructed to remove her headscarf by the school’s headmaster.
P.R. Rudra Goud, the Director of School Education in Puducherry, stated that the dress code will include thorough restrictions on uniforms as well as a few items that will be permitted.
He also stated that after the government adopts the proposal, the dress code will be enforced among pupils and that an investigation into the headmaster’s request that the student removes her hijab is underway.
The political parties of Puducherry have expressed their concern to the Lieutenant Governor of the territory, N. Rangasamy, as well as the Chief Minister of the territory, N. Rangasamy, about the hijab row that has turned violent in neighboring Karnataka, and have requested that such an issue not arise in Puducherry. In the announcement, the Lieutenant Governor also stated that the independent MLAs had met with her and discussed several recommendations for the Union Territory’s growth.
It should be mentioned that there was a squabble regarding four independent MLAs backing Rangasamy petitioning the Lieutenant Governor, and there were rumors that the legislators were preparing to abandon the administration.
