Former Mumbai police officer ‘disappearing’ Param Bir Singh, the city’s police commissioner, is set to join Maharashtra’s corruption and extortion investigation.
Param Bir Singh, a former Mumbai police commissioner who has been on the run since March, has arrived in the city, police said on Wednesday. He’s arrived at Kandivali’s Unit 11 of the Mumbai police crime branch, where he’ll join the inquiry into a corruption and extortion complaint filed against him at the Goregaon police station.
The former Mumbai top officer is in Chandigarh, according to a source acquainted with the situation. On Wednesday, Singh surfaced on Telegram for a short time before deleting his account from the social messaging service.
In Maharashtra, Singh is charged with extortion and corruption on five separate counts, including former state home minister Anil Deshmukh and former Mumbai police officer Sachin Vaze. The Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch Unit 11 is investigating one of the five first information reports (FIRs) filed against Singh, while the Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Thane Police are looking into the other four.
