Qatar has also banned one-night stands and public romance during the World Cup, reports say. The Daily Star reports that Qatar has made it clear that foreign guests will have to follow its strict laws. Physical relations between a man and a woman who are not husband and wife can result in a 7-year jail sentence, according to the police here.

Apart from this, the Government of Qatar has enacted a number of other harsh restrictions that make it challenging for western tourists.

Islamic Sharia law is used to govern Qatar. This states that having a physical relationship when single is illegal. Additionally, there is a provision for homosexuality’s penalty. According to Qatar Police, who were referenced in the paper, international nationals might also receive a 7-year sentence for these offences. Consensual relationships between individuals who are not husband and wife are likewise illegal.

Qatar will also ban the consumption of alcohol and partying after football matches. A couple whose surnames do not match will not be assigned a room together in a hotel. It is necessary for them to prove that they are husband and wife in order to get a room together.

As Nasser Al-Khater, chief official of the FIFA World Cup, explained, romance in the open is not part of Qatar’s culture and cannot be allowed by foreign guests. Furthermore, he said their priority would be the safety and security of football fans visiting Qatar.
