A pregnant woman was forced to deliver her baby outside the hospital on Tuesday 19th of july.
The incident occurred in front of Safdarajang Hospital building in Delhi, when a woman gave
birth to a baby outside of the premises because the hospital reportedly denied admission of the
lady.
The whole incident got captured by a patient on his phone of the same hospital the lady didn’t
get the admission. In the video you can see a lady questioning the scenario as to why a
pregnant woman is lying outside the premises. Also, in the video some trained staff can be
clearly seen performing their duty in front of the gynaecology and obstetrics department. “The
whole night she was here. The doctor said that there was no pain. Today morning, they told me
to make an OPD receipt and after that the doctor will see her. This is an emergency case; why
else will we wait outside their door,” the attendant was heard saying in the video.
Hours after the lady delivered a baby in the super bad scenario, the video reached the Delhi
commission and the commission took suo moto cognizance of the matter. In its notice to the
Safdarjang Hospital, they have asked for all the details from the hospital since the lady first
came to visit the hospital. They have also asked if any professionally trained medical staff were
there to help the lady while the lady was delivering her baby just outside of the gynaecology and
obstetrics department.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal phrased her wrath over the occurrence and said, “Such
incidents, where even reputed government hospitals deny admission and care to critical
patients, break the trust of common people in the public healthcare system. I have issued a
notice to Safdarjung hospital and have asked the hospital authorities to fix accountability in the
matter. The incident is shameful and urgent steps must be taken to ensure action against the
negligent officers and to rectify the situation so that it is never repeated again.” read the statement.
Initially after the inquiry was being done in the hospital, they said in their statement that the
doctors had first examined the woman and asked her to take the admission, her relatives took
the paper and went, but the patient did not return with the admission paper even after hours.
However, the matter is also being investigated internally.
