The first group of Indians from Ukraine arrived in Romania on Friday, according to the foreign ministry. “The first group of Ukrainian evacuees has arrived in Romania via the Suceava border crossing. In a tweet, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Our staff in Suceava will now arrange transit to Bucharest for their continued journey to India.”
The Indian ministry has also issued helpline numbers for Indian citizens in Ukraine to call in order to coordinate the MEA before reaching border areas in order to exit the country and reach India.
However, it warned individuals not to travel to border areas without first consulting MEA officials, because the situation at border checkpoints is delicate in the wake of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine.
Meanwhile, during the evacuation attempts, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has been in continuous contact with his counterparts from Ukraine, Romania, and other countries.
