Following SS Rajamouli's RRR, Kantara by Rishab Shetty was submitted for Oscar consideration
Rishab Shetty's Kantara has also been pushed for the Academy Awards, weeks after SS Rajamouli's RRR was nominated for an Oscar.

Kantara, a historical action thriller by Rishab Shetty, has been nominated for the 2023 Academy Awards, generally known as the Oscars, following SS Rajamouli's RRR. Hombale Productions founder Vijay Kiragandur acknowledged as much in a recent interview, adding that they are optimistic. The popular Kannada movie Kantara, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, opened to a roaring reception on September 30. Kantara, which is set in a fictional village, features a Kambala champion (Rishab), who clashes with Murali, a moral Forest Range officer. Vijay explained to India Today, "As the final nominations have not yet been announced, we have submitted our Oscar submission for Kantara and are crossing our fingers. Because Kantara is a story with such deep roots, we believe it can be heard on a global scale as well."
Vijay also said that Kantara will be made into a franchise, according to news source PTI. Vijay said to PTI: "When Rishab returns from his trip, we will talk about whether we want to make a prequel or a sequel. In a few months, something will be available. There is no set release date for Kantara 2, but we do have plans." Rishab had declared his intention to produce a sequel to the popular film. Partner at Hombale Films Chaluve Gowda claims that because the film highlighted the deeply ingrained customs and values that are common in Indian culture, the audience was able to relate to it. "These rites are practised in various ways around the world. Any region of the country could experience what happened in Kantara. People communicated with Kantara in this way. It resonated with people. We wished to introduce a local topic to a larger audience, "Added he.
Kantara was also released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam, with important roles for Achyuth Kumar and Sapthami Gowda. Aside from the viewers, the film received positive reviews on social media from a number of industry figures, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Over 500 crore have already been generated by the film globally.
