"He was arrested for tweeting against the prime minister...': Mamata stands by Saket Gokhale

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal, criticized the BJP on Tuesday for having a "vindictive attitude" and supported Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale, who had been detained in Rajasthan by Gujarat police over a tweet regarding prime minister Narendra Modi's visit to Morbi last month.

"It's a terrible, horrible situation (incident). A bright person, Saket (Gokhale) is. On social media, he has huge popularity. He's not erred at all "Added Banerjee.
"This mindset of revenge is unacceptable. Saket was detained as a result of his anti-prime minister tweets. Also, I receive negative tweets from people... We are very sorry ", the chief minister stated.

Abhishek Banerjee, the party's general secretary, also supported the Trinamool leader and claimed that the BJP's response to the leader's arrest was "panic-stricken."
"Fearless... Gokhale opposed the governing regime that deals in life for its own interest. In response, the alarmed BJP forced Gujarat Police to detain our national spokesperson Saket Gokhale. The BJP is being foolish by supposing that their intimidation tactics will convince us to submit."

Late on Monday night, Gokhale was taken into custody by police from the BJP-ruled state of Gujarat in the Congress-ruled state of Rajasthan. Derek O'Brien, a party comrade, tweeted that police had been waiting and had taken him into custody when his flight landed. According to O'Brien, Gokhale was on the flight from Delhi to Jaipur at 9 p.m.
