Teary-eyed PM Modi addresses a gathering in Gujarat's Banaskantha district

Hours after a bridge collapsed in the state's Morbi district, killing over 130 people, the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, addressed a crowd in Gujarat's Banaskantha and broke down in tears, describing the tragedy as "horrific and agonising." The PM was addressing at the Banaskantha district's infrastructure projects' official opening.
"This (the inauguration) is a project for development, therefore I was in a dilemma. Do I need to go or not? I braved with a strong mind and presented myself before you all because of your love and support... and my duty-bound convictions "he stated.

The prime minister expressed his sympathies to the families of those killed in Morbi earlier that day while speaking at an event at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat's Kevadia. On one side is a heart full of hurt and on the other is the path of duty and work. I offer my condolences to the families of the people who have lost their lives. In this hour of tragedy, the government is with them, he said. "I am in Ekta Nagar but my mind is connected to the victims of Morbi. Only rarely in life would I have experienced such pain.
